काठमाडौं । कोशी नदीको प्रमुख सहायक नदीमध्येको एक अरुण नदीको कारण सगरमाथाको उचाइमा असामान्य वृद्धि भएको एक नयाँ अनुसन्धानले देखाएको छ ।
युनिभर्सिटी कलेज लण्डन (युसिएल)का अनुसन्धानकर्ताले गरेको अध्ययनअनुसार करीब ८९ हजार वर्षअघि कोशी नदीको नियमित बहाव प्रणालीमा अर्को सहायक नदी पूर्णरूपमा विलय हुँदा भूगर्भीय परिवर्तनहरू देखिए, जसको कारण विश्वको सबैभन्दा अग्लो हिमाल १५ देखि ५० मिटर अग्लो बनाएको हुन सक्ने दाबी गरिएको छ ।
अरुण नदीले तिब्बतको दक्षिणी क्षेत्र र सगरमाथाको उत्तरी पानीढलोबाट ७ किलोमिटर गहिरो खोंचबाट ३५ किलोमिटरभन्दा लामो खोंचबाट ७ किलोमिटरसम्म तल झर्छ । अध्ययनका अनुसार अरुण नदीले तिब्बतको अर्को कुनै ठूलो नदीलाई समाहित गरि पूर्वी हिमालयको भू-भागलाई क्षय गर्न थप मद्दत गरेको हुन सक्छ ।
अध्ययनका सहलेखक एडम स्मिथले बीबीसीलाई भनेका छन्, ‘यो जहाजबाट कार्गोको भारी फ्याँकेजस्तै हो । यसले जहाज हलुका हुन्छ र अलि माथि तैरिन्छ। त्यसैगरी, जब क्रस्ट हल्का हुन्छ, यो अलि बढी तैरिन सक्छ ।’
विश्वको सबैभन्दा अग्ला चुचुराहरू मिलेर बनेको हिमालय ४० देखि ५० मिलियन वर्षपहिले भारतीय र युरेशियन प्लेटहरू आपसमा ठोक्किएपछि अस्तित्वमा आएको वैज्ञानिकहरूको भनाइ छ । दुई प्लेटहरूको आपसी दबाबका कारण त्यतिबेलादेखि नै हिमालहरू बढ्दै गएका छन् ।
तर, ८ हजार ८ सय ४८ दशमलव ८६ मिटर अग्लो सगरमाथाको उचाइ वृद्धिले विश्वभरका वैज्ञानिकलाई हैरान पारेको छ । सीएनएनका अनुसार हालैको जीपीएस मापनले सगरमाथा प्रतिवर्ष ०.०४ इन्च (१ मिलिमिटर) को वृद्धि अपेक्षा गरिएको भएपनि यो प्रतिवर्ष लगभग ०.०८ इन्च (२ मिलिमिटर) को दरले वृद्धि भइरहेको देखाएको छ ।
एभरेस्टको असामान्य उचाइ आंशिकरूपमा ड्रेनेज क्याप्चर र नदी चीराको कारण हो, यद्यपि टेक्टोनिक प्रक्रियाहरूले क्रस्टल मोटाइ र चट्टानहरूलाई सतहमा आउन मद्दत गर्छ, जुन स्पष्टरूपमा यसको उचाइको प्रमुख कारण हो ।
नदीको बहावले उचाइलाई कम गर्छ । आइसोस्टेटिक रिबाउन्डद्वारा चट्टानहरू उत्रिन्छन् । यसको प्रभाव छिमेकी चुचुराहरू ल्होत्से र मकालुमा देखिएको छ।
'अरुण नदीको कटान र पृथ्वीको आवरणमाथिको चापबीचको अन्तरक्रियाले सगरमाथालाई अन्यभन्दा माथि धकेल्छ,' चाइना युनिभर्सिटी अफ जियोसाइन्सेजका डा. शु हानले बीबीसीलाई बताएका छन् ।
